After it slithered into theaters earlier this year, Beware Boiúna is crawling into the walls of your home as it arrives on digital. Lionsgate confirmed that Mike P. Nelson’s new creature feature arrives in digital and VOD tomorrow, with a Blu-ray and DVD release confirmed for December.
Directed by Nelson from a script by Alan McElroy, Beware Boiúna stars Jessica Rothe, Kiana Madeira, Jackson Bews, Juan Pablo Shuk, and Logan Marshall-Green. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Deep in the Amazon, a medical mission spirals into a fight for survival when Boiúna, a colossal ancient predator, awakens to reclaim her domain. In the jungle where nature holds absolute power, she decides who lives and who dies.
The physical release of Beware Boiúna also comes with several special features when it arrives in December. AMong them you can find an audio commentary with Nelson, along with deleted scenes, the theatrical trailer, and two making-of featurettes about shooting a horror film deep in the bowels of the jungle.
Originally titled Titan, Beware Boiúna is Nelson’s latest foray into horror after directing last year’s remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, and the “No Wake” and “Ambrosia” segments of V/H/S/85. Its story is based on the Brazilian legend of the Boiúna, a giant black snake who lives in the rivers of the Amazon and can take on any shape to protect its territory, including objects, humans, and other animals.
The film also serves as the third Rothe-led horror film to hit theaters this year, after the Happy Death Day star also featured in Affection and Imposters earlier this year. She joins Madeira as co-lead, the latter of whom returns to horror for the first time since she starred in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy in 2021.
Beware Boiúna arrives on digital on November 3, and on Blu-ray and DVD on December 15.
