Japanese horror legends Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Chime) and Takashi Shimizu (Ju-On, Village of Eight Gravestones) are among the directors behind Night Tales Club, a new supernatural anthology series heading to Disney+ next year.

Based on a short horror story collection from Ichi Sawamura, Night Tales Club follows a successful businessman, Hojo, played by Takayuki Yamada (Gantz, Lesson of the Evil) , obsessed with the inexplicable who turns his attention to solving life’s biggest mysteries, unleashing all manner of bizarre horrors.

Per Deadline, each of the six episodes will see Hojo sharing a different mysterious story. He is convinced that ghost stories, monsters and other supernatural anomalies are “bugs” in an underlying conspiracy, so begins inviting people to share their experiences and evidence at his Night Tales Club in exchange for 20 million yen.

Alongside Kurosawa and Shimizu, Shinzo Katayama (Gannibal), Yukiko Sode (Aristocrats), Yuichiro Sakashita (I Can’t Cry With Your Face) and Yosuke Nakamura (Higuma!!) will all direct episodes, with Kenji Nakajima (The Naked Director) helming the overarching Hojo sequences.

Here's what Sawamura, who adapted the book for the small screen, has to say about his stories being brought to life in Night Tales Club:

“As the original author of these stories, I feel an enormous sense of surprise and joy that they will soon be available on screen to scare audiences around the world.”

Night Tales Club marks the latest original Japanese show from Disney+ following folk horror series Gannibal, supernatural mystery Land of Tanabata, and the upcoming rom-com Merry Berry Love.

Night Tales Club hits Disney+ in January 2027. Stay tuned for more as we get it.
