Two years after it was announced, writer Michael W. Conrad and artist Noah Bailey are finally returning to comic shops with their latest collaboration, The 99 Legs. FANGORIA is excited to partner with Comixology and Mad Cave Studios to debut the first preview of the giallo-inspired series, which arrives next month.

Also featuring letters by Kyle Arends, The 99 Legs will first be released digitally as a Comixology Original in November, before being published in print by Mad Cave Studios next year. The series’ synopsis is as follows:

When a down on his luck crime writer discovers a string of gruesome murders in his area that seem to align with his newest unpublished manuscript he alerts his agent in the hopes that they can prevent it from being delivered to publishers. Terrified by the turn of events and fearing that the book will implicate him in the crimes he tries to stop the murders before they happen. What follows is a blood spattered, spiraling nightmare, as the mystery of the killer’s identity unfolds.

“Noah Bailey has been a critical component of my most significant work as a comics writer,” says Conrad. “It’s with Noah that I was able to present my first widely read work, and it’s with him that I have learned the occult arts of creating stories in this medium. Creating The 99 Legs was challenging at times, and Noah was always there encouraging me to let go and trust the process. Together, we have made a strange and marvelous book we hope readers will enjoy.”

Conrad and Bailey previously collaborated on two other horror comics: Tremor Dose, originally published in 2021, and Double Walker, released the next year. Their latest collaboration is inspired by the giallo films that came out of Italy in the 1970s, creating a “perfect marriage of avant-garde and lowbrow art sensibilities.”

“Michael and I both tried a lot of new things on this book,” says Bailey. “But the best thing we did was put our blood, sweat, and tears into every bit of it. Michael wrote the most gorgeous prose and a story that is terrifying, groundbreaking, and inspired.

“I spent many months without sleep or sunlight, violently carving these pages out, or at least I think it was me. I think this book is totally different than anything we’ve ever done, and I think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. I’m insanely proud of it, and I am so happy to see it all come together and share it with readers. I can only hope it’ll mean as much to everyone else as it does to us!”

The 99 Legs debuts on Comixology on November 17, before coming to print on August 3, 2027. Check out our exclusive preview below:
