Just like when I was a kid, teens can’t get enough of vampires — so much so that Lionsgate is releasing a movie about one who becomes one of the undead herself. They’ve just debuted the trailer for The Teenage Vampire, a new horror thriller about a teen who moves in next to a bloodsucking neighbor.
Directed by Frank Mora from a script he co-wrote with Asif Akbar, The Teenage Vampire stars Jazlyn Nicolette Sward, Kelly Lynn Reiter, James Chalke, Spice Williams-Crosby, Luke Gregory Crosby, Courtney Akbar, and Michael Cervantes. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
When a straightlaced young woman moves into a chic bungalow in the Hollywood Hills, she imagines nothing but raging parties and romance in her future. But Sandra’s new dream house quickly becomes a den of horrors after she discovers her landlords are ancient vampires…and her first party guests are the victims of a bloody massacre. As the night grows more sinister and twisted, Sandra unearths the most terrifying secret of all.
It’s interesting to note that the film was originally shot in 2022, meaning that it’s arriving on streaming platforms four years after it was made. No information is available on why it was blocked from release for so long, but its digital release in late October means it’s timed perfectly to fit in with everyone’ Halloween party watchlists.
Either way, the film gives off big Fright Night energy, fitting into the long and storied subgenre of “teenagers get mixed up with actual vampires and pay the price,” a list that also includes titles like The Lost Boys and Twilight. Whether The Teenage Vampire will live up to that legacy, we don’t know yet, but we welcome it nonetheless.
