Warner Bros. is taking us somewhere that's green this fall with their latest 4K release. To celebrate forty years of the cult classic musical, Little Shop of Horrors is being rereleased on special 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, which is just about the best thing next to getting our own personal Audrey II. (Well, maybe not…)
Starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, and Steve Martin, Little Shop of Horrors was directed by Frank Oz, the puppeteer and Jim Henson collaborator known for characters like Yoda, Fozzie Bear, and Miss Piggy. He adapted the off-Broadway musical of the same name, itself based on the 1960 film of the same name, featuring music by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman. The film’s synopsis, for those who’ve never seen it, is as follows:
A comedy, a love story, and a cult classic starring a giant singing plant from outer space – what else could it be but Little Shop of Horrors? Seymour – an orphan and a nerd who works in a run-down flower shop on Skid Row – spends his time doing menial tasks and dreaming of his co-worker, Audrey. Then, one day, just after an eclipse of the sun, Seymour discovers a strange plant. The exotic plant draws customers, saves the flower shop from bankruptcy, and makes Seymour a hero in Audrey's eyes. But the plant has a rather unique appetite … and it's getting interested in Audrey too.

The new 4K Ultra HD release comes with a whole host of goodies, including a custom-designed steelbook and slipcase, two theatrical posters, a thirty-four page booklet, two behind the scenes cards, and four character cards. Both discs are also loaded with special features, including outtakes and deleted scenes, commentaries by Oz for both the original and director’s cuts of the film, and several special featurettes on the making of Audrey II and more.
Little Shop of Horrors arrives on 4K Ultra HD on October 19.
