It seems like 2026 is once again the year of the killer clown, as HBO is bringing back its most famous circus act for another season. The streamer confirmed that Welcome to Derry has been renewed for a second season, following a freshman season that wrapped up in December and brought Pennywise back to the small screen.
Producer Andy Muschietti revealed before the premiere of the first season that HBO already had a three season plan in mind for the series, so the renewal comes as no real shocker. What does come as a surprise, however, is the exit of Jason Fuchs as co-showrunner, leaving Brad Caleb Kane as the sole showrunner for the new season.
“We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara’s horrifically iconic adaptation,” says HBO’s Sarah Aubrey. “Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”

Season 2 of the series will revolve around the “bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang,” set against the Great Depression as we see a group of bank robbers stop in Derry to buy ammo, only to face unimaginable horrors in the quiet Maine town. The second season will be produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, along with Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Diana Gilbert.
“Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege,” the Muschiettis said in a joint statement. “We look forward to bringing fans back to the town of Derry to experience the next chapter and uncover even more of what lies beneath the surface.”
