Will we ever be done with shark horror films? It seems not, as Highland Film Group has announced their latest project, White, featuring Kate Beckinsale and Katherine McNamara in a film that once again puts sharks (specifically great whites) at the center of a survival thriller — as the villains, naturally.
Directed by Jake West, White comes from a script by Dan Schaffer, with production set to begin this summer, split between Bulgaria, England, and the US. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Willa Harba, a struggling actress trying to catch her big break, is traveling overseas for a shoot with a self-obsessed star when their private jet crashes into the Pacific. Now the sole survivor, she’s stranded on a fractured wing with nothing but ocean around her. Her only lifeline is a satellite phone salvaged from the wreck – but when she calls for rescue, her demanding studio boss, Barbara (Kate Beckinsale), brushes her off. Instead, her signal is picked up by marine biologist Sam Swatek (Katherine McNamara), who delivers chilling news: Willa has crashed into the infamous White Shark Café, a stretch of ocean where great whites gather to feed.

White is produced by Beckinsale, Yariv Lerner, Dominic Burns, Crawford Anderson-Dillon, Sky Morfopoulos, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, Patrick Wintersgill, Kevin Glynn, Pauric Duffy, and Hannah Leader.
“We are delighted to be working with producer Yariv Lerner who continues to be a guiding force behind some of today’s most innovative action films,” says Perrier. “And with our wonderful cast led by Kate Beckinsale and Katherine McNamara, it’s the perfect addition to our Cannes slate.”
Ignoring the fact that the protagonist of the aquatic horror movie’s surname is Harba, will we ever be done with shark-centric horror films? It seems not, as this year alone has already graced us with two: the Netflix thriller Thrash and Renny Harlin’s Deep Water, marking his second time making a killer shark movie after the infamous Deep Blue Sea. Sharks aren’t that deadly, I promise!
White has not set a release date. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
