Following a glowing debut at Cannes Film Festival this week, Jane Schoenbrun's genre-bending meta-slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is going on tour for a selection of preview screenings across North America ahead of its August 7 theatrical release.
Starring Hacks' Hannah Einbinder and The X-Files legend Gillian Anderson, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, described as “Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a Friday the 13th sequel” follows a queer filmmaker hired to direct a new installment of a long-running slasher franchise. The director fixates on the prospect of casting the ‘final girl ‘from the original movie, and the two women descend into a frenzy of psychosexual mania:
After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie's star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.
The fourth feature from Schoenbrun following We're All Going to the World's Fair and I Saw the TV Glow stars Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald, and I Saw the TV Glow and Queens of the Dead‘s Jack Haven.
