Now that it’s found its leads, Ryan Coogler’s reboot of The X-Files is expanding its cast. Deadline reports that eight stars have joined the cast of the upcoming series as guest stars, including a recent Oscar winner and a couple of genre staples.

The highest profile name on the list is Amy Madigan, who just won an Academy Award for her work in Zach Cregger’s Weapons. Also joining are Steve Buscemi, Devery Jacobs, Tantoo Cardinal, Lochlyn Munro, Joel D. Montgrad, and Sofia Grace Clifton. They join Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler in the roles originally occupied by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, but no details about their guest roles have been released yet.

Per Deadline, the show’s synopsis follows “highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents [who] form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.” Essentially the logline for the original series, but with some Coogler spice added to it, yeah?

Few other details about the show have been released, though we do know that Coogler is directing the pilot episode and producing, his first project after winning an Oscar for his Sinners screenplay. Jennifer Yale serves as showrunner and executive producer, with original X-Files creator Chris Carter producing alongside Sev Ohanian, Deadwyler, Patel, Zinzi Coogler, and Simone Harris.

While Coogler confirmed he spoke to Anderson about the reboot before embarking on it, we have no idea how (or if) this new series will be connected to the original, or if we’ll see any returning stars make an appearance. However, he did tease in the same interview what his goals are for the series, which seems more encouraging than anything else:

“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it. Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f*cking scary…We’re gonna try to make something really great and really be something for the real X-Files fans, and maybe find some new ones.”

No release date has been announced for the X-Files reboot. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
