Turner Classic Movies doesn’t pull its punches when it comes to programming, especially not in the summertime. They’ve just revealed the lineup of celebrations for next month, which not only honors one of the biggest stars of old Hollywood, but also has some pretty sweet features for us horror fans.
Ahead of the release of Disclosure Day this summer, director Steven Spielberg will join TCM for a special event on June 9, where he’ll co-host a screening of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, his 1977 sci-fi thriller starring Richard Dreyfuss. The film headlines a triple bill that also includes Minority Report and A.I. Artificial Intelligence, prepping fans for Spielberg Summer by reliving some of his best works. (Yes, that’s what we’re calling it. Just roll with it.)

But, before that, TCM viewers will be able to experience Goth Gardens, a curated evening of films inspired by Gothic aesthetics, on June 2. While the list of titles being featured has yet to be announced, the event will feature author Felicia Feaster, promoting her new book The Goth Garden, an encyclopedia of dark and unique plants.
This is paired with TCM’s new program, Summer of Darkness, featuring host Eddie Muller as he selects his twenty-five favorite film noirs. Beginning on June 5 and continuing into July, the program includes titles like The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, The Long Good Friday, and Nightmare Alley, as well as numerous neo-noir double features, for those who want something frightening but still classic.
All of this runs alongside their regular classic Hollywood programming, including honoring Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday with films like Gentleman Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot, as well as their annual Pride programming and a spotlight on disaster films like The Poseidon Adventure and Airport. But Marilyn isn’t the only one celebrating 100 years — so is comedian and director Mel Brooks, who gets his own night on TCM featuring films like Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.
