Religiously-tinged horror is all the rage nowadays. Between Ken Russell’s The Devils returning to theaters this fall, and now Shudder’s latest film The Voices of Our Mother making the church a cursed place, it’s a bad time for every acolyte, it seems — but at least you can watch the trailer for Mark O’Brien’s new film.
Directed by O’Brien from his own script, he also stars in The Voices of Our Mother alongside Sheila McCarthy, Georgina Reilly, Carolina Bartczak, Alex Ozerov-Meyer, and Anna Ferguson. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
The film follows Harriet Scaflen after the death of her mother at the age of 95. Harriet then has an unexplainable health scare, bringing her four estranged children to the family home to care for her. As their past animosities and secrets are revealed, they soon realize their mother’s health issues may be supernatural, and the awoken evil inside her is seeking revenge on her children for her own survival.

The Voices of Our Mother is produced by Jesse Ikeman, Nataline Rodrigues, Bill Marks, Christopher Giroux, and Justin Rebelo. The film is O’Brien’s first as director since The Righteous premiered in 2022, and he’s also set to direct and star in Nice People, a new horror comedy also starring Sosie Bacon and Chloe Bennett.
The film is just the latest in a long line of original programming from Shudder. Yesterday we got the trailer for Izabel Pakzad’s Find Your Friends, which also premieres next month, and this month alone we’re getting the premieres of Tales From the Crypt, Whistle, and This Is Not a Test. All of this joins a 2026 lineup that already includes Dolly, Deathstalker, Night Patrol, and more.
The Voices of Our Mother premieres on Shudder on June 19.
