If you were too squeamish to catch Faces of Death in theaters last month (we don't blame you, it's gnarly as hell as we found out when we put it on the cover), never fear, because the pseudo-reboot-meta-slasher is coming home very shortly courtesy of Shudder and Independent Film Company.
From Cam director Daniel Goldhaber and writer Isa Mazzei, Faces of Death stars Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things), with support from Fango cover star Josie Totah, Jermaine Fowler, Aaron Holliday, and Charli XCX (soon to be possessed by a slasher spirit in the upcoming Untitled Kyoto from Japanese genre legend Takashi Miike).
Ditching the documentary format of John Alan Schwartz's notorious 1978 faux-snuff cult classic original, Faces of Death revolves around a female moderator of a YouTube-like website, whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, that stumbles across a group that is recreating the murders from the original film.
Following a successful box office opening, in our glowing review, Fango's Kimberly Leszak calls Faces of Death “a gory, immediate tale of techno-horror”, praising the film's plot-driven homage to its source text while also weaving a totally new, painfully relevant, take on the gore and grisliness.
Goldhaber and Mazzei's Faces of Death will officially be available to rent or buy at home from May 12. For more, here's all the other horror movies we're excited for still to come this year.
