A sequel to Josh Ruben's romantic slasher Heart Eyes is officially in the works over at Paramount, with the studio setting an official release date of February 11, 2028, right at the heart of Valentine's Day weekend.
Written by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) and Michael Kennedy (Freaky, It's a Wonderful Knife), Heart Eyes hit theaters on February 7, 2025, racking up an impressive worldwide box office total of over $33 million.
The romcom slasher starred Mason Gooding (Scream) and Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer), and centered on the so-called “Heart Eyes Killer” as he begins killing romantic couples in Seattle. A pair of co-workers who are pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple, with the killer putting them in the crosshairs. In our glowing review, Richard Newby called Heart Eyes an “absolute blast” that's destined to become a fan favorite.
No news yet on whether Gooding or Holt, or anyone else from the original cast, will be along for the sequel. Ruben will return to direct and co-write the sequel script with Darcy Fowler, with Landon and Kennedy once again on story duties.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount will co-produce and co-finance Heart Eyes 2 along with Spyglass Media Group and handle global distribution.
Ruben's next pre-Heart Eyes 2 project is the upcoming camp-set horror Wilderness Reform currently in production over at Paramount. Look out for more on both horror movies as we get it.
