In very unexpected but no less exciting news, the Longlegs universe is set to expand with a follow-up to Osgood Perkins' 2024 serial killer horror officially in development.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news exclusively earlier today, Perkins will write, direct and produce Longlegs 2 (title TBA), with the man himself Nicolas Cage returning to star and produce. Sources are reportedly calling the pic something “set in the Longlegs universe”, and not a sequel. Interesting.

THR also detail that NEON, whose incredible marketing campaign helped Longlegs become the highest grossing independent film of the past decade, will not distribute the new Longlegs movie, with Paramount Pictures instead picking up rights.

While not his first feature by a long shot, Longlegs put Perkins on the map as one of the hottest horror filmmakers to watch, as well as establishing star Maika Monroe as a bonafide scream queen. Monroe starred as Lee Harker, an FBI agent tasked with investigating a series of murder-suicides connected to the titular serial killer.

Given that Mr Legs, aka Dale Kobble, met a bloody end in Longlegs, we can only imagine the upcoming sequel will be an origin story, perhaps explaining how the glam rocker got involved with making the freaky Satan dolls he used to kill families.

Needless to say, we're incredibly intrigued to see what's in store for the next Longlegs movie. Stay tuned for updates.
