After screening at this year’s Overlook Film Festival, Jessica Rothe’s newest movie finally set a release date. Brainstorm Media announced that Affection, starring Rothe as an amnesiac woman trapped in a neverending nightmare, will hit theaters next month.
Written and directed by BT Meza in his feature debut, Rothe stars in Affection alongside Joseph Cross and Julianna Layne. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Afflicted by a mysterious condition that resets her memory, Ellie becomes trapped in a cyclical nightmare with a man who claims to be her husband. She soon must uncover the horrifying truth of her existence—before she forgets it all again.
Affection is produced by Meza alongside Bay Dariz, Austin Walk, and J.P. Ouellette. The film is just the latest in Rothe’s career as a scream queen, having made a name for herself in the meta slasher Happy Death Day and its 2019 sequel. Affliction is her second genre film to hit theaters this year, after starring in the sci-fi mystery project Imposters, and she’s also set to star in River, a new survival slasher that puts her up against Evil Dead (2013) star Jane Levy.
But that’s not all that’s in store for Rothe. She also confirmed this time last year that a third film in the Happy Death Day franchise is officially in the works, reteaming her with director Christopher Landon for the bigger, boldest film in the series yet. But, while we wait for more news on that, clearly Rothe is giving us plenty to curb our horror appetites in the meantime.
Affection hits theaters on May 8. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
