Japanese horror Exit 8 opens in theaters today, April 10, and to celebrate, NEON is giving NYC horror fans a chance to embark on a liminal adventure with one of the film's stars, the mysterious Walking Man.

From director Genki Kawamura, Exit 8 is an adaptation of Kotake Create's walking simulator game of the same name. The game allows players to step into the role of an unseen protagonist trying to escape the neverending passageway of a Tokyo metro station. The synopsis for Kawamura’s adaptation, which stars Kazunari Ninomiya (Letters from Iwo Jima) and Yamato Kochi as the aforementioned Walking Man, is as follows:

A man trapped in an endless sterile subway passageway sets out to find Exit 8. The rules of his quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor?

Exit 8‘s The Walking Man has been making the rounds across New York City subway stations this week, giving fans mysterious prizes and creeping them out with that already-iconic smile. This time, Kochi will be embarking on what NEON describes as a “cinematic journey” across the city, showing fans how to finally access Exit 8, and leave the looping liminal nightmare behind. Where exactly is he headed? We're not sure. The only way to find out is to get to Washington Square Park at 12:00pm, today. Head over to NEON's official Instagram account for more details.
