In Nightholme, players can play in groups or solo, entering the world as a monster hunter, known as a Grimrunner, chasing down an monstrous enemy boss known as Grimspawn:

Playing as a Grimrunner, you’ll initially start with three archetypes to choose from, with each having their own specific abilities: Seer, Nameless and Voorbeast. After choosing your archetype, you’ll descend upon the city, joining eleven other Grimrunners. You goal can vary: Do you hunt the Gloomfiend, or do you complete other quests? Or do you scavenge and stalk other players, sabotaging their plans and taking what they’ve earned. The choice is yours.

The strategic multiplayer game sees gamers explore a decaying urban sprawl dense with verticality, interiors, and forgotten paths, slipping through alleys and tracking movement through walls. Twelve players enter every session, and helping another player can secure short-term survival – but betrayal is always an option. Probably make sure your friendships are stable before getting the gang on Nightholme, then!

Studio Ellipsis Head and Creator of Nightholme, Alex Amancio (Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed Revelations) had the following to say about the upcoming game, which will be available to experience via the Closed Beta coming this summer:

“We're not the first ones to say this; making games is hard. By sharing more about Nightholme at pre-alpha, our goal is to break down some of the barriers between devs and community. Being ‘community first’ should mean that the community has a say when it matters most, and it's a promise we're committed to upholding,” shared Studio Ellipsis Head and Creator of Nightholme, Alex Amancio. “Some of us at Studio Ellipsis have built worlds for years. For some, Nightholme is their first. What unites us is simple: we believe games should feel unpredictable again. And that worlds are better when they’re discovered together. And yes…we want to scare the shit out of you. We hope you'll enjoy discovering this first foray into Nightholme with us.”

Scare the shit out of us, you say? We're in.
