Coming off the success of Sam Raimi’s Send Help, Dylan O’Brien is once again dipping his toes into playing someone’s twisted boss. Deadline reports that the former Teen Wolf star is set to co-lead Apparatus, a new thriller from director Sofia Banzhaf.

O’Brien co-stars in the film alongside Heated Rivalry breakout Hudson Williams, which serves as Banzhaf’s feature directorial debut. According to Deadline, Apparatus “follows struggling young rideshare driver Tyler (Williams) as he falls under the influence of a self-styled entrepreneur, JP (O’Brien), who offers him a future in his handheld massager business. But what appears to be a dream opportunity unravels as JP pulls Tyler into a violent downward spiral.”

Banzhaf wrote the script for Apparatus with Grayson Moore, coming hot off the heels of her short film I Am in the World as Free and Slender as a Deer on a Plain. The film is produced by Julie Baldassi, Daniel Bekerman, and Brian Robertson alongside Banzhaf and Moore. The film is financed by Sam Sutcliffe, Jasmin Karibzhanova, and Nicholas Chepesiuk, but no filming window has been announced.

O’Brien is no stranger to thriller films — beyond his starring role in Send Help alongside Rachel McAdams, he also featured in the HBO Max sci-fi thriller Caddo Lake in 2024, as well as films like Love and Monsters and Ponyboi in recent years. Williams, on the other hand, is still relatively new to the industry, with only one other feature film and the popularity of Heated Rivalry under his belt so far. He’s also set to star in the indie thriller film Encore, which is currently in post-production.

No release date has been announced for Apparatus. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
