Coming off Sinners‘ Oscar sweep, hype is higher than ever for Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot, with today bringing news that Himesh Patel (Tenet, Station Eleven, The Assessment) will star alongside The Woman in the Yard alum Danielle Deadwyler in the upcoming Hulu series.
Coogler's X-Files follows two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents, Patel and Deadwyler, who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena, so not too dissimilar to the plot of Fox's original sci-fi horror series which originally ran from from 1993 to 2002 and starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the latter of whom might be returning to her legacy role.
The pilot of the new series is written, directed and executive produced by Coogler, and produced by showrunner Jennifer Yale (The Copenhagen Test) alongside Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, and original X-Files creator Chris Carter, with Sinners casting director Francine Maisler once again teaming up with Coogler. Anderson has described the pilot as “f***ing cool“, and if there's anyone whose opinion we trust, it's her.
Per Variety, who revealed the casting news earlier today, The X-Files marks a reunion for Patel and Deadwyler, who previously appeared together in the HBO Max miniseries Station Eleven.
Look out for more on Coogler's The X-Files as we get it.
