We know from experience how hard it is to show anything from the upcomingย Faces of Death, the pseudo-reboot of John Alan Schwartz's notorious 1978 faux-snuff cult classic from Cam directors Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber (have you seen what little we can show you of our upcoming subscriber cover?!), so we wouldn't be at all surprised if today's new trailer gets taken down, just like the last one did. Better watch it post-haste:
Fromย Cam directors Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, the unsurprisingly R-rated Faces of Death will officially hit theaters on April 10 via Independent Film Company (their widest release to date) and Shudder.
Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) star in the gory new pic, with support from Josie Totah, Jermaine Fowler and Miss Brat Summer herself, Charli XCX (soon to be possessed by a slasher spirit in the upcoming Untitled Kyoto from Japanese genre legend Takashi Miike)
The new Faces of Death ditches the documentary format of the original, with a new story from Mazzei, Goldhaber, and Isabelle Link-Levy that revolves around a female moderator of a YouTube-like website, whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, that stumbles across a group that is recreating the murders from the original film:
But in the story primed for the digital age and age of online misinformation, the question faced is are the murders real or fake?
In case you haven't seen the original Faces of Death, or heard of it from its controversial reputation, Schwartz's mondo horror contained footage showing different gruesome ways of dying from a variety of sources, including parachute jumps, snake bites and more horrific scenes. While many of these were faked for the film, Faces of Death also included pre-existing video footage of real deaths and the gory, grisly aftermath. How exactly are Mazzei and Goldhaber going to navigate this in 2026, you might wonder? Their answer is honestly kind of ominous.
