Brat superstar Charli xcx is currently successfully transitioning from music to movies, currently starring in The Moment, providing soundtrack for Wuthering Heights and, of course, having a role in the upcoming Faces of Death reboot. But what horror fans really want to hear more about is her mysterious upcoming horror project with Japanese genre auteur Takashi Miike (Audition, One Missed Call). Updated with full details: 02/06 03:20pm

Speaking on an episode of the podcast SmartLess earlier this week, when she wasn't fending off oddly invasive questions about her plans for motherhood from co-host Jason Bateman, xcx teased that the film, written by How to Save a Marriage‘s Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi (Kokoro)ย  starts shooting later this year in Japan. In a brand new update, Deadline reveals today that the slasher-horror is officially known as Untitled Kyoto.

Also starring inย Untitled Kyoto are Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead, Death Stranding), actress-model-singer Kiko Mizuhara (Helter Skelter, Attack on Titan) and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice). Per Deadline, the film is inspired from an original idea of Charli and Miike, and will follow three best friends who meet up in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendships:

What is intended to be a carefree girls trip devolves into a nightmare, unfolding when Katie (Charli xcx) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara) in the Japanese horror tradition.

As well as star, xcx will also produce through her newly-founded Studio365 banner, with Miikeโ€™s longtime producing partner Misako Saka producing on his behalf. Also producing are Good World Productions, Yumiko Aoyagi Productions and OLM. Alex Peace-Power will executive-produce.

The legendary Miike also has an upcoming remake of Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant on his books, starring Shun Oguri (Godzilla v. Kong) and WWE star Liv Morgan, which NEON plans to release theatrically.

Look out for more on Untitled Kyoto as we get it, and for more, here's all the other horror movies coming in 2026 that we can't wait to watch.
