FANGORIA had the honor of celebrating the great George A. Romero's birthday yesterday with A Very Scary Unbirthday, a live event featuring cast and crew ofย Queens of the Dead, last year's queer zombie horror-comedy from Romero's daughter, Tina Romero. Among the festivities and appearances from special guests such as stars Katy O'Brian and Nina West, Romero and co-writer Erin Judge teased their next project, and frankly, we're already obsessed with it.
Speaking with Fango's own EIC Phil Nobile Jr. and Community and Content Manager Kimberly Leszak, Romero and Judge revealed that they are currently working on a “big gay ensemble” shark movie, with the working title ofย Jawline (as if you weren't sold already!)
Billed as a “cousin” toย Queens of the Dead,ย plot and cast details remain under wraps, but Judge did promise thatย Jawline will feature “beautiful queer people on the beach”, while Romero expressed a desire to do some crossover casting on the horror-comedy chomper.
Romero and Judge also revealed that aย Queens of the Dead sequel is definitely on their radar for future plans, but both expressed a desire to leave some breathing room before heading back to the zombie genre. After all, George A. Romero waited a full decade afterย Night of the Living Dead to directย Dawn of the Dead, and look what happened – we ended up with two incredible classic horror movies that changed the face of horror forever. If anyone knows how to time zombie sequels correctly, it's the Romeros.
Check out the fullย A Very Scary Unbirthday event below, and stay tuned for more onย Jawline. For more, here's all the monster movies we're looking forward to still to come in 2026.
