Sam Raimi might be busy with his new desert-island set thriller Send Help hitting theaters this coming weekend, but one of his past projects is getting an exciting update, too.

Following a scoop from MovieWeb that Raimi'sย 1990 superhero horror movie Darkman officially has a sequel in the works, Dread Central has today revealed that Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures have officially tapped Don't Move directors Brian Nettoย andย Adam Schindler to helm the project.

Starring Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand,ย Darkman was based on a short story written by Raimi, and followed scientist Peyton Westlake (Neeson), who is brutally attacked, disfigured, and left for dead by a ruthless mobster after his girlfriend, attorney Julie Hastings (McDormand), runs afoul of a corrupt developer. An experimental treatment gives Westlake super-human strength and resilience, with the unintended side-effect of rendering him mentally unstable and borderline psychotic.

No news yet on whether Neeson will return for another round of Darkman, although in 2022ย The Naked Gun star told ComicBook.com he would be “very interested” in reading a sequel script.

Dread reminds that Netto and Schindler first worked with the duo on the Quibi series 50 States of Fright, which led to Raimi producing Donโ€™t Move, a thrilling psychological horror film in which aย seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent, and she must run, fight, and hide before her body shuts down.

Back in 2024, the pair told The Hollywood Reporter that a new Darkman sequel, after previous entries Darkman II: The Return of Durant from 1995 and Darkman III: Die Darkman Die from 1996, was their dream project to work on, which serves as a lesson to us all – speak your dreams into existence, and they might just come true.

Stay tuned for more on theย Darkman sequel as we get it, and for more horror-superhero news, here's everything we know about DC's upcoming Mike Flanagan-pennedย Clayface movie.
