Filming has officially wrapped on Werwulf, the hotly-anticipated monster movie fromย The Witch andย Nosferatu director Robert Eggers that's set to hit theaters on December 25 via Focus Features.
DP Jarin Blaschke confirmed that the shoot, which took place in England, was over after 77 days via his Facebook page, with star Ralph Ineson sharing a snap from the Werwulfwrap party via his official Twitter account (see below).
Eggers directed Werwulfย from a script he co-wrote with Icelandic poet and screenwriter Sjรณn, who he previously worked with on The Northman. The creature feature, which Eggers describes as “the darkest thing [he's] ever written” takes place in 13th-century England in which a mysterious beast stalks a foggy countryside as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality for the villagers.
Starring alongside Ineson are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe, makingย Werwulf a Nosferatu reunion if ever we saw one.
Werwulf isnโt the only project Eggers currently has in the works. The director behind The VVitch and The Lighthouse is also reportedly working on a reimagining of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros., with Dafoe currently reported as the frontrunner for the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Eggers is also said to be helming a sequel to Labyrinth, the 1986 cult classic directed by Jim Henson and starring David Bowie as the mysterious Goblin King.
With shooting now finished onย Werwulf, Eggers and his team have a good 11 months in post-production to craft something truly terrifying, and we have no doubt they'll deliver. Look out for more onย Werwulf as we get it, and for more, here's our other most-anticipated horror movies coming this year.
