Single-player slashers, neon-drenched zombie madness, ghostly J-horror remakes and more!

2025 was a feast for horror gamers, withย Silent Hill f, Cronos: The New Dawn,ย Dying Light: The Beast and more putting our consoles to the test and pushing our spirits to the limit. Luckily, 2026 looks to be just as stacked, if not more, from the return of legendary survival horror franchises to iconic slashers making their single player debut. Read on for our list of 15 horror games we can't wait to play this year.

  • Resident Evil Requiem

Even before it was announced that golden boy Leon S. Kennedy would be making a return to the world of Resident Evil, we were already incredibly hyped forย Requiem, the ninth title in the mainline series of Capcom's iconic survival horror gaming franchise.

Launching on February 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, Resident Evil Requiem is set 30 years after a missile strike destroys Raccoon City, and mainly follows investigate reporter Grace Ashcroft, daughter ofย Resident Evil Outbreakโ€˜s Alyssa Ashcroft.

Directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also helmed the utterly terrifying Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Requiem marks the series'ย return to pure survival horror after the more fantasy-focused Resident Evil Village. In a first for the series, in Resident Evil Requiem, players are able to shift, at any point in the game, between first and third-person perspective, so you can decide how close you want to come to the game's terrifying new stalker enemy. Gulp.

Classic Japanese horror gameย Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly has been given a โ€œcomplete overhaulโ€ by publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja, and is headed our way for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in early 2026.

Originally released back in 2003, ย Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is the second entry in theย Fatal Frame series, and follows sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura who are are trapped in a ghost-filled village cursed by a failed ritual which they are being forced to re-enact. Players must use the famed Camera Obscura weapon to take down the ghosts and escape from the village.

The new release reportedly sees improvements in everything from visuals and audio to the core gameplay systems and controls. Per Steam, the signature Camera Obscura mechanic, used to capture and fend off spirits, remains a key feature, now offering richer and more engaging gameplay in both exploration and combat. If you liked the traditional Japanese aesthetic ofย Silent Hill f,ย Fatal Frame II should be at the top of your to-play list this year.

Horror gamers have been dying for a goodย Hellraiser game for eons, and it looks like in 2026, we're finally getting one. Saber Interactive's Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival, hitting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam later this year, is based on the iconic 1987 supernatural horror and its 1986 source material novella โ€œThe Hellbound Heartโ€, is a story-driven, single-player, survival horror action game that โ€œthrows you into a battle of wills against the legendary Pinhead and the malevolent Cenobites for the fate of your immortal soulโ€.

Returning as one of said Cenobites is the legendary Doug Bradley, who'll be lending his vocal talents to the game as the Hell Priest. Players take on the role of Aidan, who must unlock the dark powers of the Genesis Configuration, a mysterious puzzle box, to help his girlfriend from a hellish abyss. As Aidan, youโ€™ll harness the boxโ€™s infernal abilities to survive your pact with Pinhead and battle against the twisted cult that worships him and the Cenobites.

True Hellraiser believers can pre-order one of two special Collectorโ€™s Editions of the title from Boss Team Games, including an exclusive version of the Hellraiser Puzzle Box with a unique illumination effect inspired by the game, a special Hellraiser statue to display it on, as well as other officially licensed collectibles that have been created especially for these limited editions that can be found right here.

  • Halloween: The Game

    Credit: IllFonic

Michael Myers looks set to be more terrifying (in video game form, at least) than ever before with the release of IllFonic's Halloween, due to be released on September 8.

Based on the John Carpenter classic slasher from 1978,ย Halloween is powered by the Unreal Engine 5, and sees players take on either The Shape of Evil as Myers or save your neighbors as a Hero of Haddonfield in what's described as the ultimate asymmetrical horror sandbox.ย Halloween also comes with “The Night He Came Home”, a standalone singleplayer story mode, too.

As Michael, players wear the mask, become the Boogeyman, and stalk innocent residents with relentless obsession. Utilizing a nightmarish array of abilities, Michael leverages shadows and stealth to satisfy his bloodthirst. This doesnโ€™t mean Haddonfield is going down without a fight, though. As a Hero of Haddonfield, itโ€™s your job to alert the residents of Haddonfield to the impending evil and help them escape before falling victim to Michaelโ€™s unyielding pursuit. There's your creepy season play sorted!

Formerย Resident Evil programmer and producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi is keeping in the zombie game with Stupid Never Dies, the upcoming action-horror RPG from Kobayashi's studio GPTRACK50.

Set in a world where monsters are part of everyday life (not just the undead โ€“ werewolves, lizardmen, skeletons and more too), players take on the role of Davy, a lowly zombie who must brave a dungeon to bring back Julia, a frozen human he loved. Players can steal enemy abilities, customize your undead body with bizarre upgrades, and experience fast-paced combat packed with innovation.

  • Decrepit

If you love the castle levels ofย Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Village,ย then it's time to get excited forย Decrepit. The dark fantasy-horror first-person Soulslike horror game made its debut at the Game Awards last month, and immediately shot to the top of our 2026 wishlist.

According to developer Jรคmmerdal Games and publisher Three Friend, Decrepit is inspired by classic first-person action games like Hexen, dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder, and emphasises spatial mastery over power creep. The devs warn that players will have to memorize winding corridors, unlock elevators that stay active, and discover passages that shorten your route. And if that doesn't sound challenging enough, if you mess up in Decrepit,ย you'll have to start all over again without your gear. Oh dear.

Decrepit is planned to release this year, but you can sign up for a playtest on Steam now.

  • Grave Seasons

Cozy farming horror simย Grave Seasons is the latest offering from Blumhouse Games, following Cozy Game Pal'sย Fear the Spotlight, Gambrinous'ย Eyes of Hellfire and Eyes Out'sย Sleep Awake. Developed by indie studio Perfect Garbage, Grave Seasons puts players in the scene of the idyllic mountain town of Ashenridge, which has some seriously unsettling vibes.

Players can fill their days with fishing, tending to farmland, harvesting crops, and getting to know the charismatic villagers. Just be aware they really donโ€™t like it when they catch you breaking and entering into their houses. Oh, and thereโ€™s a serious problemโ€ฆ a supernatural serial killer is picking off the townsfolk.

Grave Seasons is due to hit PC and consoles later this year, and you can wishlist it right here for further updates.

  • Silent Hill: Townfall

While we don't yet have an official release date forย Silent Hill: Townfall, word on the street is that the latest entry in Konami's iconic survival horror franchise is headed our way this year. First announced all the way back in 2022 at theย Silent Hill transmission event,ย Townfall hit a hurdle when staff of the publisher team Annapurna Interactive resigned en masse, although they've insisted the game is still in the works.

Next to nothing is known about Townfall save for a cryptic teaser that was revealed at the aforementioned transmission, where sleuths repotedly cracked hidden text reading”Whatever heart this town had has now stopped” and “Thy flesh is weak”. Gulp.

Following the success of Bloober's Silent Hill 2 Remake, and the newest original mainline game Silent Hill f, hype and hope is high for another terrifying Silent Hill game, and Konami would be wise to getย Townfall out sooner rather than later to capitalize on that.

  • John Carpenter's Toxic Commando

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, the upcomingย Left 4 Dead style action-horror from Saber Interactive and the master of horror himself, hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam on March 12 of this year.

Powered by Saberโ€™s Swarm Engine, the technology behind World War Z: Aftermath and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, John Carpenter'sย Toxic Commando sees gamers play in squads of up to four players with full crossplay support across PC and consoles, promising โ€œbuddy-movie vibes and the over-the-top humor, action, and horror of classic โ€˜80s cinemaโ€.

Billed as โ€œanother f*cking zombie gameโ€, John Carpenter's Toxic Commandoย sees players team up in squads of up to four players and send the so-called Sludge God and its horde of things-that-should-never-be back to the underworld. Theย Halloweenย andย The Thing maestro himself tells us that the zombies “blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.โ€ We don't doubt him.

  • ILL

    Credit: Team Clout

ILL, the upcoming first-person action horror game from Team Clout, promises intense body horror, grotesque monsters and relentless fear, so naturally we'll be seated, controller in hand, on day one of its release.

Inย ILL, players take on the role of a main character trapped in a huge research fort that's been taken over by so-called Aberrations that react to their surroundings on impulse and exhibit disturbingly human-like reflexes.

If the gameplay teaser wasn't enough to convince you that ILLย is probably going to be one of the scariest games of the year, the fact that the team have worked on a ton of horror films, including Longlegs, Until Dawn, V/H/S/Beyond, It: Welcome to Derry, Azrael and more, really should. Keep an eye out forย ILL later this year.

  • OD

OD - KNOCK (Credit: Kojima Productions)

We don't have an exact release date forย OD, the new horror nightmare from Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding maestro Hideo Kojima and Nope‘s Jordan Peele, but given that the game was first announced way back in 2022, we (fingers crossed) might be looking at a late 2026 release date.

Plot details for Xbox Game Studios' mysterious title (which Kojima has previously described as โ€œa game and at the same time a movie and at the same time a new form of mediaโ€) remain scarce, but we do know that it stars Sophia Lillis (It, Gretel and Hansel), Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo) and the late Udo Kier (Blood for Dracula, Shadow of the Vampire).

Kojima has also teased thatย OD might be something of an anthology series, with various creatives (including Peele) crafting a game based on different forms of fear. The snippet we have seen, referred to asย OD – Knock, is based on Kojima's own fear of “big knock sounds”. Hmmm.

  • I Hate This Place

    Credit: Rock Square Thunder

Missingย Stranger Things and looking for a horror experience with '80s vibes to ease the sadness? Rock Square Games and Bloober Team‘s isometric craft-based survival horror game I Hate This Placeย looks like a great place to start.

Inspired by the award-nominated comic book series created by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin, I Hate This Placeย is set in a cursed land filled with reality-bending nightmares and terrifying creatures that thrive in the dark. Players will need to scavenge, build, sneak, and fight if you want to make it out alive.

I Hate This Place arrives on January 29, and you can play a demo right here.

  • No Vacation for an Executionerย

    Credit: JayO

Retro PS2 style RPG No Vacation for an Executioner ย is due for release this March, and with its striking unique visuals and old-school controls it's immediately piqued our interest as one of our must-plays in 2026.

Inspired by the book The Hangman of Paris by Claude Cueni, and the disturbing paintings of Zdzisล‚aw Beksiล„ski, JayO's No Vacation for an Executioner follows a frustrated executioner in late 17th century who finds himself at the hands of a riot of monsters.

No Vacation for an Executionerย employs toughย Silent Hill 2 style combat, prioritizing stealth over all-guns-blazing battle, so is definitely not for the faint of heart. A true throwback to old-school survival horror that looks creepy as all get out.

  • God Save Birmingham

    Credit: Kakao Games

Korean developers Kakao Games and Ocean Drive Studio are bringing zombie chaos to medieval England with God Save Birmingham, an open world horror game expected to launch on Steam Early Access this year, with console releases to follow.

Set in 14th Century Birmingham, players must navigate through bubonic medieval market town ravaged by shambling corpses of your former friends and neighbors, who you'll need to avoid if you want to stay alive.

God Save Birmingham boasts a “painstakingly recreated medieval town”, so expect this one to look as foul as it feels. We can't wait.

  • Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit

Definitely the cutest horror game on our most anticipated list is WereBuff Studios' Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit,ย a Thai horror-action-adventure game coming soon to PC via Steam with a console release to follow.

In the Little Nightmares-inspired Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit, gamers play as the titular entity lost in a world of terrifying folklore and vengeful ghosts. With only his courage and loyal spirit steed, he must face his fears and search for a place called home.

Players will need to engage in stealth mechanics, solve puzzles, and progress through six chapters with distinct visuals to help little Kumarn, who is as adorable as he is creepy.
