28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,ย one of our most anticipated horror movies of 2026, charges closer to its January 16, 2026 release date, with Sony today releasing a new look at Nia DaCosta's “terrifying” sequel.

The follow-up to Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later is directed by DaCosta (Candyman) and written by 28 Days Later and 28 Years Later scribe Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation), with Ralph Fiennes, Alfie Williams and Jack O'Connell returning to star as survivors of the Rage Virus that ravaged Britain almost three decades prior. Also returning is MMA fighter Chi Lewis-Parry, who plays Samson the Alpha and Erin Kellyman as Jimmy Ink, who was seen briefly in the insane Teletubbies ninja showdown at the end of 28 Years Later.

An official logline forย The Bone Temple reads:

In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship โ€“ with consequences that could change the world as they know it โ€“ and Spike's (Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (O'Connell) becomes a nightmare he can't escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival โ€“ the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.

28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy executive produces, and will make a highly-anticipated return to his role of bike courier Jim from the original 2002 film.

Following release in June, Boyle's 28 Years Later quickly became a box office hit in a year that included stiff competition from Sinners, Weapons, The Conjuring: Last Rites and Final Destination Bloodlines, racking up over $150 million globally and only recently surpassed by Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands.ย Let's hopeย The Bone Templeย sees similar success.
