For fans of scary movies, the Scream franchise set the standard to measure all others. Scream VI was released in theaters recently, and ahead of its digital release, eager fans from an online forum had a lot of opinions about the newest film in the franchise.

  1. Excited for It

The original movie was released 27 years ago. Its age hasn't deterred this film enthusiast, who's not only excited for the newest Scream but lauds how the directors use the longevity of the film series.

“For 25+ years, Scream has told a story that is linear with movies set in the time period they were released. The characters age as we age. The technology improves with each movie. I can't think of another franchise that has done this, horror or otherwise,” they elaborate.

For one viewer, their lifelong love of horror began when they watched the original Scream as a kid. After some initial skepticism about the subsequent films of the franchise after the passing of director Wes Craven, they wound up enjoying them because of “how much love and consideration went into the project.”

They now believe Craven's legacy is in good hands and are excited about the change of location from Woodsboro to New York City.

Despite their zeal for the film series, more than a few admirers readily confess some of the sequels were up to par. An avid viewer admits to not being “a huge fan of Scream (2022) because of the writing.” However, they give kudos to the marketing of Scream VI and hope for its success now that it's not tethered so much to the earlier films.

  4. New Location and Characters

The change-up from Woodsboro to New York City and the introduction of new characters excite another moviegoer for the latest Scream. They believe the movie may feel weird, not revolving around Sidney. However, they still look forward to watching it as a standalone project.

While eagerly anticipating the latest feature, several devotees hope the filmmakers omit the Billy Loomis hallucinations this time around. Sidney's vivid dreams of her mother in Scream 3 were logical and connected to the storyline. At the same time, the visions of Billy seemed out of place.

Each Scream installation is known for its meta factor, observes a forum contributor, writing, “Like we had 1 – commenting on horror tropes, 2 – sequels, 3 – trilogies, 4 – remakes, 5 – reboots. What's 6? It's not been long enough for there to be a new horror trend.” They hope it's a good flick but are suspicious that it's a pure cash grab.

  7. Feels Soulless

There's little argument to be had about the genius of Wes Craven, especially when it comes to his contributions to the first four movies in the series. Numerous horror mavens lament how “soulless” Scream (2022) felt and are not looking forward to another sequel without him. “No Craven, no magic,” someone on the thread asserts.

Some aficionados of the franchise confess to being less than excited about the current release, primarily because of their disappointment in Scream (2022).

A critic from the online community remarks, “I will watch it, but I think it's probably gonna be bad. I think they should've just stopped after 4,” with a second critic agreeing, “They should've stopped after Scream 2 if we're being honest.” Despite their belief the last movie was overrated, a third critic indifferently plans to watch it.

The release of another Scream animates a movieholic on the thread: “I have watched every Scream movie at theaters on release day. I can't wait!” they enthusiastically declare.
