First Look Studios, whose past genre releases include TRIANGLE, ISOLATION and INFESTATION, has acquired director/co-writer Tim Sullivan’s sequel 2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS, the latest installment of the gory horror-comedy cult franchise derived from H.G. Lewis’ original 1964 splatter classic TWO THOUSAND MANIACS! Lensed in Iowa, FIELD OF SCREAMS will premiere at the Texas Frightmare Weekend convention this April.

In 1988, my mom took me to the local theater, like she would every month to expose me to films (no matter the rating—I had a cool mom, what can I say?). I remember it was a double feature, as the local theater based its business on showing two movies for one low price, and the main draw for our trip was the now-classic action film DIE HARD. While watching Bruce Willis kick ass was a great way to spend two hours, it was the second film that stuck in my memory and would not leave. I couldn’t wrap my mind around what was on the screen. Weird and scary clowns wielding popcorn guns and sucking blood from cocoons made of cotton candy?

Most Fango fans know Jonathan Tiersten as Ricky in the classic SLEEPAWAY CAMP, but since then he’s gone on to become an acclaimed singer-songwriter sharing the stage with a good deal of notable musicians including Mark Slaughter and Taylor Dane. This Saturday, March 20, he’ll be headlining On The Rox (9009 W Sunset Blvd) in Los Angeles, CA. Read on for the flyer and more info.

Toronto-based distributor Phase 4 Films announced earlier this week that the company had acquired three of notorious/prolific genre director Uwe Boll’s latest films for release in the U.S. and Canada: the electrifying mass-murder flick RAMPAGE (see exclusive art after the jump), the ripped-from-the-headlines story DARFUR and a new horror-actioner called THE FINAL STORM, toplining Lauren Holly and Luke Perry.

What’s the most genius villain in horror? Well, Death, since it will never stop. Thus FINAL DESTINATION 5 is coming our way.

Rob Cohen, producer of the original 80’s cult classic THE MONSTER SQUAD is looking to remake the beloved film, and this time, direct as well. Read on for the bad news of who will be producing alongside Cohen.

REPO MEN, starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker, should not be confused with Darren Lynn Bousman’s 2008 cult rock musical REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA—although, as you’ve no doubt read, it’s very similar. In fact, REPO MEN has had fans screaming bloody plagiarism, as it’s an almost concept-for-concept echo of Bousman’s film—sans the songs, of course.

Before his death in 2008, FX legend Stan Winston (pictured) had been developing a horror/action movie called SPEED DEMON, and now it’s getting back on the road to the screen.

Having won all kinds of attention via preview footage shown at South by Southwest, PREDATORS now has a trailer ready for inspection, and IGN was the first to expose it to the world. You can check it out for yourself after the jump!

At last weekend’s Monster-Mania convention in New Jersey, Fango got the chance to speak with Malcolm McDowell, the veteran actor whose most prominent recent genre role was Dr. Loomis in Rob Zombie’s pair of HALLOWEEN films, and who appeared earlier this month in Zombie’s “LA” episode of the hit CBS series CSI: MIAMI.

Cinefamily, the Grindhouse Film Festival, Ballyhoo Motion Pictures and Temple of Schlock are hosting a special double feature in Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 30, highlighted by the first theatrical screening in over 40 years of the exploitation thriller THE NAME OF THE GAME IS KILL (a.k.a. THE FEMALE TRAP).

I’m a child of the 1980s. I grew up on a steady diet of Count Chocula cereal, bad hair metal and VHS tapes, most of which were procured from a mom-and-pop video store in my hometown of Winchester, Virginia. It was among these dusty shelves that I (to quote The Damned) caught “the tide at the flood” and “fell in love with the video nasty.”
