A unique cinematic experience known as BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR has been flapping around the festival and special-relase circuit for a few months now. Today, distributor Severin Films sent along word that the film will have its New York City premiere this weekend.

• Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a DVD/Blu-ray date for THE ROAD (pictured), director John Hillcoat’s adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel, set in a postapocaplyptic future through which a father and his young son struggle to survive.

Last week, we told you about Pulp 2.0 Press’ release of BROTHER BLOOD (see link here) and teased you about what the publishing label’s Bill Cunningham (pictured on the left) told Fango to expect in 2010. With the Don Glut signing happening this past Saturday at Dark Delicacies (where all copies of BROTHER BLOOD sold out), we can officially announce Pulp 2.0 Press’ slate and give you a glimpse at a brand new poster to whet your appetites. Richard Taylor can’t shed too much light on the HOBBIT films, but the Weta Workshop president, while visiting Hong Kong, did offer some comments on the highly anticipated prequels.

We just reported last week about Tim Burton’s involvement in the ADDAMS FAMILY reboot (see item here). But before the ALICE IN WONDERLAND director—who is also attached to a DARK SHADOWS film with Johnny Depp—does anything else, it now appears that Burton’s next directorial gig will be the 3D, feature-length, stop-motion adaptation of his beloved black-and-white 1984 live-action short, FRANKENWEENIE.

The TWILIGHT SAGA might not be hardcore horror fans cup of tea, but there’s no denying the films’ popularity—as well as that of its young cast members. Ashley Greene, who plays Alice of the vampiric Cullen clan, will be seen in ECLIPSE this summer, but the 23-year-old actress is also participating in several non-TWILIGHT projects, including the supernatural horror film THE APPARITION.

Director Jack Perez (pictured) got in touch with an update on SOME GUY WHO KILLS PEOPLE, a mix of serial-killer horror and dark humor that he recently wrapped, and passed on an exclusive on-set photo you can see after the jump. The movie stars Kevin Corrigan as Ken, a bullied guy who turns from suicidal tendencies to the homicidal kind.

Universal and Rogue Pictures’ THE STRANGERS was a surprise 2008 hit, pulling in more than $50 million at the domestic box office and around $82 million worldwide. Sounds like perfect sequel material, so where’s the follow-up? Well, the original’s writer-director Bryan Bertino has completed a script, but it seems the project is now in limbo.

With all the animal-rights discussion generated by Eli Roth’s recent comments re: Sea World (see item here), some of you might be feeling like striking a blow on behalf of our aquatic friends. And genre filmmaker has just the vehicle for you: his on-line game POLAR BEAR PAYBACK!

Director, actor, producer and general genre film gadfly Eli Roth has gone from carving up innocents on- screen with his HOSTEL films and bashing Nazi’s in Quentin Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, to being an angry advocate for persecuted marine life. Fango just received a press release from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in which Roth voices his outrage at the recent violent death of a Sea World trainer at the hands (fins?) of a captive orca named Tilikum.
