NOPE (2022)

This is by far the most we have seen and the biggest chunk of plot divulged yet for Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated Nope. Steven Yeun’s character promises “a spectacle” and we are inclined to believe him. Settle in and check it out with your own eyes:

After teasers that haven’t answered any of our burning questions, this feels like a feast of plot details!

Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer’s brother-sister duo witness the death of their father (Keith David) after seeing something in a mysterious cloud hovering in the sky. Naturally, enterprising duo that they are, they decide to set out to get the money shot, “undeniable proof of aliens on camera.” So, did we finally get confirmation that Nope is indeed about aliens? We’ll say… we now have confirmation that the characters in Nope believe this is about aliens.

NOPE-4

This trailer does give us some choice Close Encounters moments— mysterious clouds that we maybe should not look directly into, blood(?) raining down from the sky and coating the windows of Kaluuya and Palmer’s ranch home, bodies being violently sucked into the sky, and a UFO. Very alien-like shit.

But… there’s also a moment in the trailer that warns (threatens? promises?) “It’s not what you think.” Now, is that a message for the widely alien-assuming audience? I suppose we’ll find out in July.

Nope lands in theaters July 22nd.
