Fans of both James Wan's particular brand of scares and of the 1991 box office dud/formative classic Drop Dead Fred have been blessed by good news this week: the trailer for Malignant is upon us.
It's a can't miss premise (well, unless you squandered that premise 30 years ago in an ill-fated Phoebe Cates/Rik Mayall comedy misfire): a woman discovers that her imaginary childhood friend, one that caused her all manner of mischief in her youth, is not all that imaginary — and has returned to wreak havoc with her adult life.
Kidding aside, Malignant, in which "Madison (Annabelle Wallis) is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities" (thanks WB) looks like a nasty little affair, and it's nice to see Mr. Wan return from the depths of Atlantis for a sec to come give us the creeps again.
The poster is a refreshing bit of key art, to boot:

Malignant hits theaters and HBO Max on September 10th. Bring a Fred - er, a friend!
