“WRATH OF THE GODS” to complete Robin Hardy’s “WICKER” Trilogy

As the filmmaker restores his original vision to the 1973 classic THE WICKER MAN, Robin Hardy has revealed intentions to continue exploring the themes of both that film and 2011’s THE WICKER TREE with a third, concluding title.

Screen Daily is reporting Hardy hopes to go into production on WRATH OF THE GODS in 2014, with plans to shoot in the Shetlands. ““The first two films are all (about) offers to the Gods,” he says. “The third film is about the Gods. I use the vehicle of the final act of Götterdämmerung (the last of Wagner’s Ring cycle).” That opera, one of Wagner’s four in The Ring, is based on Norse mythology and sees a war waged on the Gods.

Hardy is currently financing the film as well as anticipating the release of THE WICKER MAN’s Final Cut, a 102-minute version of the film long thought lost but now assembled thanks to a public search by the filmmaker and StudioCanal. In the UK, you can see THE WICKER MAN Final Cut in cinemas on September 27. For more on that, see our previous post here.
