Women in Horror Month begins with NSFW Blood Drive PSA from Soska Sisters et al.

,

As Women in Horror Month rolls in like so much cemetery fog today, and while drugstore cards are filled with red glitter hearts, certain female filmmakers’ buckets are brimming with stage blood in celebration of women working in the genre. As is tradition, twin dynamos Jen and Sylvia Soska have put together a PSA (that’s quite NSFW) for the annual Blood Drive, which you can see after the jump.

This is an important month to give special recognition and support to the coven of fearmongering females, and for the past seven years, the Soskas have overseen video spots urging people to donate their crimson, featuring horror’s goriest girls from both behind and in front of the camera. Each story has involved some sort of bloodletting, since after all, it is better to give then receive—especially when razors and axes are involved. This year’s mini-anthology features segments by returning fan favorites Patricia Chica (A TRICKY TREAT), Maude Michaud (DYS-), Gigi Saul Guerrero (EL GIGANTE), Jill Sixx Gevargizian (CALL GIRL) and Women in Horror Month founder Hannah Neurotica; fresh blood taking part includes Nicole McClure, Joe Magna, Lisa Ovies, Andy Stewart, Tristan Risk from the Soskas’ AMERICAN MARY making her directorial debut and 17-year-old Veronica Hampson and Kate Taeuschel.

The award-winning Chica is returning for her third year with the Drive with the short BLOODY BURLESQUE, which features an erotic dance that promises to satiate horror fans with rivers of grue. An expanded version, renamed CRIMSON DANCE, will be making the festival rounds for the 2016/2017 seasons. Both versions feature Tiffany Shepis (SHARKNADO 2, THE VIOLENT KIND, THE HAZING) and Tonya Kay (AMITYVILLE TERROR, WITHIN THE DARKNESS). Shepis is a great supporter of the cause: “The Blood Drive is important, and not enough of us do it. I play with fake blood all day long, but the reality is, people need our real blood and our help. Please donate.”

The idea for the piece came to Chica (pictured above with Kay, Shepis and producer/co-star Michelle Romano) from her past experiences in the Montreal burlesque and fetish communities. “It’s exciting to me to see Tonya Kay and Tiffany Shepis getting the tone so playfully right,” she says.
