Wingard to Direct Robert Kirkman Exorcism Pilot, “OUTCAST”

Robert Kirkman, creator of THE WALKING DEAD, and now producer and writer on its hit television series adaptation has had another comic in development for television for some time. Now, OUTCAST is shaping up with a star and filmmaker on board for its Cinemax pilot.

The ongoing comic, which debuted earlier this summer, concerns Kyle Barnes, who has been “plagued by demonic possession all his life and now he needs answers. Unfortunately, what he uncovers along the way could bring about the end of life on Earth as we know it.” Deadline reports Patrick Fugit (ALMOST FAMOUS) will essay Kyle in the upcoming show, the pilot of which is to be directed by Adam Wingard, of YOU’RE NEXT and this year’s stellar THE GUEST.

Philip Glenister and young Gabriel Bateman have also been cast. They’ll play “Reverend Anderson, a hard drinking, hard gambling West Virginian evangelical preacher who believes he’s a soldier in God’s holy war against evil” and Joshua Austin, “a young boy who lives across town who appears to be possessed by a demon and has a mysterious connection to Kyle,” respectively.

Kirkman penned the pilot. Wingard is also slated to helm a developing remake of I SAW THE DEVIL, with frequent writer and collaborator Simon Barrett.
