“V/H/S/2” out in June; Two new intense picsMovies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
The bigger, badder, better, gonzo sequel to last year’s found footage anthology is set for this summer, and the news comes with two looks at the segment that’s bound to blow you away.
Featuring contributions from Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett (YOU’RE NEXT), Eduardo Sanchez & Gregg Hale (THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT), Gareth Evans & Timo Tjahjanto (THE RAID and MACABRE, respectively) and HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN’S Jason Eisener, V/H/S/2 sees “two private investigators, searching for a missing student, break into his abandoned house and find another collection of mysterious VHS tapes. In viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be terrifying motives behind the student’s disappearance.”
The film, which I reviewed here, is great stuff, with Evans & Tjahjanto’s “Safe Haven” (previewed here) being a transcendent stand out. Their short goes wild, wild places that satisfy those looking for an uncomfortable fright, as well as blood soaked insanity.
Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet will release V/H/S 2 June 6 on VOD with a theatrical to follow on July 12. The film also plays this week’s SXSW down in Austin, and hits the East Coast in April at the Tribeca Film Festival (see our talk with Tribeca Midnight programmer Cara Cusumano here).
