A suspense chiller that’s spent nearly a decade getting to the screen is finally being realized, with the production team behind THE PURGE backing it.
Variety reports that Universal and Blumhouse Productions have joined forces for CURVE, with THE SKELETON KEY’s Iain Softley set to helm and Jason Blum, ORPHAN director Jaume Collet-Serra, Julie Yorn and Juan Sola producing. Julianne Hough (pictured above) will star as a bride-to-be who picks up a hitchhiker while driving a remote road; at first charming, the guy turns out to be a psychopath, and she deliberately crashes her car to escape him. Unfortunately, she winds up trapped in the vehicle while gets free to further torment her. Screenwriter Kimberly Lofstrom Johnson (who’s married to ORPHAN scribe David Leslie Johnson) first sold the CURVE script back in 2005, with Eva Mendes set as the lead and Charles Stone and ZODIAC and WHITE HOUSE DOWN writer James Vanderbilt set to direct at different points; in 2008, the project moved over to Scatter Light Productions and MUTANT CHRONICLES helmer Simon Hunter became attached.
