U.S. Trailer: “DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS. DEAD”

Tommy Wirkola’s bigger, badder, better sequel approaches.

DEAD SNOW might appropriately be referred to as a modern cult favorite. Its fans are loyal, and its detractors (of which I count myself) are steadfast. But let’s not start that debate up again, because refreshingly, DEAD SNOW 2 is a surprising and undeniably better film. Wirkola, who’s clearly grown as a filmmaker since his lo-budget horror-comedy delighted fest audience and gorehounds, crafts the sequel in a less obvious and less referential manner. Its style, slaughter and even silliness are strong.

In the film, DEAD SNOW survivor Martin (Vegar Hoel) “hasn’t had the best vacation. He accidentally killed his girlfriend with an axe. He cut his own arm off with a chainsaw. And his friends STILL got devoured by a battallion of Nazi Zombies. This morning, he woke up in a hospital bed with a new arm – but it’s a super-powered Zombie arm that wants to kill him, and anything else it can reach. Martin’s PISSED. And with the help of his new Zombie Squad pals (Martin Starr, Jocelyn DeBoer, Ingrid Haas), he’s gonna deliver some payback to Colonel Herzog and his precious Nazi gold – by raising an undead army of his own.”

Here then is the official U.S. trailer for the film, arriving October 10 in limited release and on demand via Well Go USA. If you’re in Austin, and hitting this week’s Fantastic Fest, DEAD SNOW 2 plays Thursday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 23. For more on the film, see my review from Sundance and expect an interview with Wirkola here at Fango soon.
