Two clips: Jim Jarmusch’s vampire film, “ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE”

onlyloversfeat

In anticipation of its Cannes debut, snippets from the DOWN BY LAW director’s tale of centuries-old vampiric lovers (played by Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston) are revealed.

Set against the romantic desolation of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply depressed by the direction of human activities, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Their love story has already endured several centuries at least, but their debauched idyll is soon disrupted by her wild and uncontrollable younger sister. Can these wise but fragile outsiders continue to survive as the modern world collapses around them?

The first clip introduces us to the two as they reunite, embracing in a lyrical manner that’s exactly what you think a Jarmusch movie with Swinton and Hiddleston essaying lovelorn creatures might be like. The second finds Mia Wasikowska (playing Juno Temple playing a vampire) as the disruptive sister and Hiddleston in the throes of his irritation.
