TV Witch Watch: Another vet returns to “AMERICAN HORROR STORY; First Image from “WITCHES OF EAST END”

I don’t know what we did to deserve the impending year of witchy entertainment on screens both large and small, but I am grateful. Perhaps the most anticipated of it all is the third season of the unapologetic, all-over-the-place AMERICAN HORROR STORY. Subtitled COVEN, the upcoming run’s ensemble continues its theater company feel, with actors from previous arcs returning for different roles. The latest being TRUE BLOOD alum Denis O’ Hare (confirmed by creator Ryan Murphy), who was fantastic as the graphically burnt Larry Harvey in the Murder House-centric first season.

Also on deck, in addition to COVEN and the WGN-produced SALEM, is the Lifetime series WITCHES OF EAST END. Starring Julia Ormond (SURVEILLANCE), the show is based on a book series from author Melissa de la Cruz and (per official synopsis) concerns “The three Beauchamp women—Joanna and her daughters, Freya and Ingrid—who live ordinary lives in mist-shrouded North Hampton, out on the tip of Long Island. All three are harboring a centuries-old secret: They are powerful witches forbidden to practice magic. But right before Freya’s planned wedding to wealthy Bran Gardiner, a mysterious and attractive man arrives in town and makes Freya question everything. When a young woman turns up dead, it soon becomes clear to all three that it’s time to dust off their wands and fight the dark forces working against them.”

Ormond, seen below in the first look, plays matriarch Joanna. Jenna Dewan Tatum and Rachel Boston star as Freya and Ingrid, respectively. Both WITCHES OF EAST END and AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN premiere this October. [EW]
