TV entering a Season of the Witch? WGN to produce “SALEM”

Set in historical 17th century Salem, Massachusetts, an upcoming series set to premiere in 2014 will “explore what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history.”

From HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT writer Adam Simon and 24′s Brannon Braga, SALEM follows this year’s HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS and its DTV/VOD counterparts, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, THE LORDS OF SALEM, THE WICKED and will hit right on the heels of the highly anticipated AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN. That series apparently drove SALEM from its original home, FX.

Yes, it’s seemingly a great time for those of us who cherish witch tales, stories of sorcery and necromancers. Are you excited for this outpouring? I totally am. What are your favorite witch movies, stories? Should I be watching THE SECRET CIRCLE?

Hocus Pocus will always be the grandaddy of Salem witch films! But seriously, I used to live in Salem and the damn film is insanely popular there. As much as that city is trying to veer away from their witch history and focus more on their maritime heritage, the witch stuff is EVERYWHERE. Witch stores, tours, souvenirs, meetings, etc. Fun town.
