Trailer: Gigi Saul Guerrero’s Shane McKenzie-Based, Gory Luchador Short, “EL GIGANTE”

Successfully crowdfunded earlier this year, and based on the first chapter of Shane McKenzie’s insane MUERTE CON CARNE (read John Skipp’s rave on Fango here), EL GIGANTE is a 13-minute introduction to a world of ultraviolence, cannibalism and Lucha Libre.

In that aforementioned book review, Skipp vigorously described MUERTE CON CARNE, and by proxy EL GIGANTE like so: “If you’re like me, you’ve probably been thinking ‘What the world needs right now is a book that’s like the literary equivalent of THE TEX-MEX CHAINSAW MASSACRE, with a creepy-ass Mexican cannibal family helping account for all those poor illegal immigrants who disappear trying to cross the border, and featuring a deranged maniac in a Luchador mask named El Gigante who likes to wrestle his prey to the mat in a grisly entertainment ritual of thrill-packed culinary prep.’

You’d be hard pressed to find a better, and more appetizing, synopsis than that. EL GIGANTE is produced by LuchaGore and directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero, who can also be seen contributing to Mexican-made and folklore-inspired horror anthology MEXICO BARBARO. EL GIGANTE will see its World Premiere at this November’s Morbido Fest in Puebla, Mexico.
