Trailer: Are you Ready for “CHEAP THRILLS”?

CHEAPTHRILLSRELEASEDATEFEAT

Earlier today, I published my favorite horror films of 2013, and in keeping with movies only released this year, there was a glaring omission of CHEAP THRILLS. The debut feature from E.L. Katz is truly something special: a biting, hilarious black comedy of a horror film that finds two lower class friends poised to eat each other alive at the whims of a rich couple. Opening in early 2014 from Drafthouse Films, this red band trailer outlines the escalation and teases the chaos that ensues.

On the eve of ANCHORMAN 2’s release, it seems appropriate to give fans a look at the more insidious side of David Koechner, who’s incredible as the dark catalyst of Pat Healy and Ethan Embry’s night from hell. In the film Healy plays Craig, a struggling family man who loses his low-wage job and is threatened with eviction. In an effort to delay facing the music at home, he heads to a local bar and encounters an old friend (Ethan Embry, Empire Records). The two are roped into a round of drinks by a charismatic and obscenely wealthy stranger (David Koechner,Anchorman 2) along with his mysterious wife (Sara Paxton, The Inkeepers). The couple engages the two friends in a series of innocent dares in exchange for money over the course of the evening, with each challenge upping the ante in both reward and boundaries. It seems like easy and much needed money, but the couple’s twisted sense of humor pushes just how far Craig and his friend are willing to go for money and cheap thrills.

CHEAP THRILLS is a clever, assured and absolutely thrilling movie. It’s thoughtful in all its rowdy energy and it will be ever exciting watching audiences discover it this winter. Drafthouse Films releases CHEAP THRILLS in theaters March 21. For more, read my glowing review.
