[TIFF ’13] Haunting Trailer for Zack Parker’s Thriller “PROXY”
An intense, stylish introduction to the upcoming Toronto premiere; The horror story of one woman’s life after a brutal assault and failed pregnancy.
Starring Alexia Rasmussen, in what looks to be a stark, thrilling role, PROXY’s Toronto guide synopsis reads, As a very-pregnant Esther (Rasmussen) walks home after a doctor’s appointment, she is viciously attacked by a hooded assailant. In the wake of this traumatic event, the quiet and lonely woman finds some consolation from kindly Melanie (Alexa Havins), whom she meets at a support group. At first, Esther’s life of sadness and solitude seems to be finally opening up to the possibility of a real friendship. That is, until a chance encounter makes it clear that nothing — and no one — in her life is as it appears. Setting off a chain reaction of increasingly shocking revelations, Proxy twists and turns its way through loss, grief, and death.
The guide further references RASHOMON’s untrustworthy accounts, evidenced by the trailer’s strong, subjective voiceover. PROXY co-stars Alexa Havins, Kristina Klebe and filmmaker/actor Joe Swanberg. Its World Premiere is Tuesday, September 10 at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, followed by additional screenings on Thursday, September 12 and Saturday, September 14, both at the Scotiabank Theater. The film will then hit Austin’s Fantastic Fest in late September.
