“THE VOICES”: Ryan Reynolds, Talking Pets and a Severed Head at Sundance

Has Marjane Satrapi, of the acclaimed PERSEPOLIS, taken a turn into crafting something of a unique horror comedy? The plot of her next, THE VOICES, and its amazing first image, would make it appear so.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Anna Kendrick, Gemma Arterton and Jacki Weaver, THE VOICES will World Premiere at the genre-heavy 2014 Sundance Film Festival in the “Premieres” section. This already joins a stacked Park City at Midnight (including COOTIES, DEAD SNOW 2 and THE GUEST) and Dramatic and Next entries like COLD IN JULY, A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT and LIFE AFTER BETH. That’s not to mention the World Premiere of the highly, highly anticipated fight-fest THE RAID 2.

THE VOICES is described as “a genre-bending tale that centers around Jerry Hickfang, a lovable but disturbed factory worker who yearns for attention from a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden, murderous turn, Jerry’s evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog lead him down a fantastical path where he ultimately finds salvation.”

The 2014 Sundance Film Festival is underway from January 16-26 in Park City, Utah. FANGORIA will be there to catch what will likely be many of the year’s most exciting horror titles. Anything you’re particularly interested in?
