“THE RAID 2” out March 2014Movies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
It was a good long while (or at least it seemed as such) between THE RAID’s massive premiere and response the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and its eventual release from Sony. In the case of the now highly anticipated sequel from director Gareth Evans, you’re in luck.
Just two months from its upcoming Sundance premiere—of which I’m preparing for by fighting a brick wall everyday—Sony Classics will launch THE RAID 2 on March 28. Truthfully, THE RAID skirted the edges of being covered by Fango. It’s a straight siege film that drew our interest by a) being amazing and b) being spectacularly gruesome. In the second film, Rama (returning star Iko Uwais) dives deeper into Jakarta’s criminal syndicate, going undercover to root out corruption. With a runtime of 148 minutes, it seems a proper crime epic might be in order, and we’re still on board.
Especially after this teaser and carnage promised by Hammer Girl… [Variety]
