“THE RAID 2″: FREE Fango NYC Screening with Cast & Crew!

HammerGirlBaddestBitchFeat

FANGORIA will host a free screening of the new Indonesian action thriller THE RAID 2 in New York City on Sunday, March 16 at 6 p.m. The special event, hosted by director Gareth Evans and stars Iko Uwais and Julie Estelle, (who will also join in for a Q&A), will be held at Union Square’s Regal Cinemas (850 Broadway; [212] 253-6266). See below for more details, trailer and pics.

The Fango screening of THE RAID 2 will be a free show; to obtain tickets, send an e-mail to fangoriascreening@gmail.com. You must list “THE RAID 2” as your subject line. Offer is good for you and one guest. Names will be checked at the door. Offer is first come, first served, and we will confirm your rsvp. Seating is not guaranteed, however. This advance preview is presented by Sony Pictures Classics, who will release THE RAID 2 theatrically on March 28.

A hit at the recent Sundance Film Festival, THE RAID 2 picks up where the first film left off. The story follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and expose the corruption in his own police force.

Reviewing the film, William Goss of Film.com called THE RAID 2 a “spectacular crescendo of ultraviolence that redefines overkill,” while Robert Cameron Fowler of Indiewire.com praised, “THE RAID 2 is one of the great action films of recent memory.” After seeing THE RAID 2, Justin Chang of Variety.com wrote, “A longer, slower, more expansive sequel that nonetheless delivers deep, bone-crunching pleasure for hardcore genre fans.”

Finally, FANGORIA’s own Sam Zimmerman said in his advance website review, “THE RAID 2 is just a robust, unforgettable experience. It’s a tale well told with absolutely groundbreaking, varied, horrifying action work, from hand-to-hand Silat, to blunt objects, to an amazing car chase. It feels neither false, nor hyperbole, to call this one of the best films action or ultraviolent cinema has to offer.”

Watch for a preview of THE RAID 2 (see Facebook page here) in April’s FANGORIA #332 and read more interviews on this site soon. See you at the screening on March 16!

Is it too late for me? I need tickets

Horrible organization by the theater and Fangoria. Lack of ticketing led to people sneaking in and people allowing those who weren’t on line get in. I waited almost 3 hours in the cold weather just to hear that there is no more seats in the theater. Highly disappointed in both parties. Will never be going to another Fangoria free screening. Thanks for nothing guys.
