“THE PURGE” Sequel Gets Dated

Are you ready to spend another night in THE PURGE? Well, get out your calendars: Universal Pictures has announced the next chapter of THE PURGE will hit theaters in a mere eight months on June 20th, 2014. Produced by Jasom Blum via Blumhouse Productions, THE PURGE 2 (originally titled THE ZONE) will once again be written and directed by James DeMonaco. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sebastien Lemercier will also be back to co-produce.

Story details are kept under wrap, as usual for a Blumhouse Production, but one could hope that the sequel adds more power to the punch of the premise. The first PURGE was a smash hit, but that didn’t stop the film from dividing horror fans based on the paranoia-driven and action-light narrative as opposed to the creepy potential for how far a world without rules could go.

Furthermore, there’s no word if any of the original cast will return for this film or if the story will simply exist in the same universe. Creep back here for more details when they become available.
