The Official “GODZILLA” Trailer is Here

While its teaser was an evocative, mood-setting piece of work, the official trailer for the highly anticipated return of GODZILLA is a meatier thing featuring more from the ensemble cast, an even grander sense of scale and another brief look at the monster itself.

“In 1954, we awakened something,” says Ken Watanabe, revealing a sense of history and the context of nuclear threat imbued within Gareth Edwards’ new vision of Godzilla.  From there, it’s an atmospheric and explosive look at the kind of damage caused by Godzilla (cities destroyed, tidal waves, planes dropping from the sky) and by trying to stop Godzilla. That’s not to mention a serious set of bones, as well as an illuminating close-up of the creatures’s skin/texture.

GODZILLA 2014 is officially described as a film that pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for a look at any of the other towering monsters at hand.

Juliette Binoche, Bryan Cranston, Sally Hawkins, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ken Watanabe star. GODZILLA is out May 16th.

…another brief look at the monster himself. So in this version the monster its male? Always thought that Godzilla was a female.

I looked it up a bit, doesn’t seem to be a proper consensus, so I should have used something gender neutral. Thanks for pointing that out.

Looks like it’s going to be great, with a cool looking Godzilla and a stellar cast. But what’s with the roar at the end? It should give you goosebumps but this one barely registers.

There are not words adequate to describe how much I’m looking forward to this movie! As someone who grew up on the classic Godzilla movies and enjoyed the 90′s/2000′s reboot series, I’ve been waiting a LONG time to see a dark, realistic, epic-scale approach to the King of Monsters. All the indications are good – solid cast, great composer, a grounded approach to the material, and what we’ve seen from the teaser and trailer are a HUGE thrill! I just want it to be good – please, God, let it be good. Because otherwise, I’m setting myself up for massive disappointment. But something tells me that this film will deliver the goods…
