“THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING”: Exclusive photos, NSFW clip

BLACKDAHLIAHAUNTEXCPICSFEAT

With THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING set to hit DVD and Blu-ray next month, its creators sent along a couple of exclusive pics and a shower-set clip that veers into NSFW territory.

Written and directed by Brandon Slagle and arriving on disc October 15 from Origin Releasing, THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING stars Devanny Pinn as a young woman who travels from her New York City home to Los Angeles, where her brother Tyler (Noah Dahl) has been incarcerated in a psychiatric ward for killing their parents. She soon becomes plagued by visions and visitations by the spirit of Elizabeth Short (Alexis Iacono), the 1947 victim of a notorious murder who came to be known as the Black Dahlia. The winner of Best Director, Actress and Monster at Shockfest 2012 and Best Use of Sexuality and Best Cameo at Pollygrind 2012, THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING also stars Britt Griffith, Cleve Hall, Jessica Cameron, Sarah Nicklin and Daniel Murkawa. Slagle and several of his cast reteamed for the creature feature DEAD SEA (more on that one soon); check out THE BLACK DAHLIA HAUNTING’s official website and Facebook page.

Thank you for posting FANGO! – BDH team

  • Brandon Slagle

    Thank you so much sir.

  • will derkson

bad movie. we walked out at the screening and so did others. thumbs down

    • will derkson

Thanks Sam. I wasnt worried. Dont really care much. Just blabbin with boredom. I dont usually leave comments but than again I never walked out of a screening before but glad I didnt wait to spent me hard earned cash on it. Fooled by the cover, the usual in horror these days. Cover is great and film is nothing like cover. I can list a whole bunch of those but I will quit while Im ahead. I think. God Bless, despite my profile pic.

Saw this movie at Calgary and wasn’t the film I thought… Bad camera work , poor acting, and just a over promoted film. Alexis Iacono is the only actor in the film that seemed to have a good screen presence and hope to see her do something better with a real director. I think the film is good for just conventions and not something that will be strong on dvd. Keep up the good work Fangoria

    • lynn walsh

see, this guy said it nicely. Truthful and respectful, learn from horrorboy 101 there Will.

      • Dev

trashing the film and posting about a “real director” right above the directors comment is anything but respectful.
btw.. he won Best Director at several fests for this film including Hollywood…so maybe you guys missed something? like the second half of the film for instance?

Additionally-to anyone bashing Michael in any capacity- shame on you.
When you are a professional journalist and a reviewer of genre cinema for years.. or someone whom many others respect/admire then feel free to post your opinions regarding him.
As it is, he didnt review the film, just posted a clip from it. ;) Reason #1 of many why he is an executive at Fangoria and you are whining in the news feeds.

      • Brandon Slagle

Distributors thought it was good enough to be placed in Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Family Video, Walmart, Redbox, etc – ergo you may be in a lonely spot in the opinion (keyword – opinion) that it’s “just for conventions. As far as not being a “real director” – you are entitled to that opinion as well (as plenty of successful individuals are often called the same) – this film I made for pocket change (LITERALLY pocket change) is getting the same type of release that your typical 10 million dollar Lion’s Gate or Anchor Bay release is getting and the film has opened doors that I’m still accepting are now a reality. If anything this should inspire others to forge ahead.
Normally I would never respond to comments such as these – in fact, I never have, but because the massive “walk out” at Calgary has been debunked, all that’s left standing is evidence of a few bitter individuals with a negative agenda. That really accomplishes nothing.
        I still like kittens.

  • lynn walsh

agreed. was excited to see it. good art and lots of talk but not good film. bad bad. I tried to leave comments but they keep getting removed. I guess not allowed to say the movie is bad.

    • Sam Zimmerman

Lynn, no one’s comments are being deleted. We have an approval process to avoid spam. I was traveling last week and this weekend, so apologies if some if fell through

      • lynn walsh

oh that quite alright darling. I saw my comment and than poof it was
gone. I thought I said something foul. couldnt exactly remember what i
said. No worries. best best best of luck with the film. Only my opinion
and what do I know. I will say that the Will guy is a bit blunt. make
your own movie and see how hard it is right? Too much hate, me I just
didnt like. bloody kisses. always a fan.

  • lynn walsh

    oh gawd! cheesy! dislike!

  • Sam Zimmerman

Hi Will, as I said above to Lynn, Michael isn’t deleting comments. There’s an approval system in place and it’s one I was a bit lazy with while traveling. Please feel free to tell us how much you dislike something all you want.

    • lynn walsh

we teamed up on Will, dont think he will be back. replace the D with a J and you got JERKSON. but the comments did appear and disappear, had me wondering too. lalala,, next

  • lynn walsh

oh shush. its bad but not THAT bad. No need to talk about walking out. Just say you dont like and move on. Now I feel bad. Hope me talking about my comment deleted didnt start this up. Sorry fangoria. Simple, say you dont like and thats it. everyone is making films these days and they all know best. Its like hire a teenager while they still know everything.

    • Brandon Slagle

While I’m sorry to read you didn’t care for the film, thank you for being keen to the fact that one opinion doesn’t necessarily mean everyone shares the same. That’s more than most seem to be in this day and age.

  • Devanny

Hello everyone, I appreciate everyone’s feedback whether it is good or bad. However I really feel that some of the posts in this feed are flat out unnecessary and unkind. I’ll have you know that this film was made for $1,000 – one thousand dollars.
It was made by several of us who had a story to tell. There is no marketing budget so you can be assured that if it was “overpromoted” that is simply word of mouth from people who enjoyed it. We know that such a small movie and this subject matter will not be for everyone, but if you feel the need to post this many comments and be THAT unsupportive I think it is fair to at least include why you did not enjoy it.
We were not able to attend Calgary, where it appears many of the negative feedback is coming from, but we did attend cons/fests across the country where the response has been overwhelmingly positive. A movie that is this tiny has rarely gotten such a wide distribution release and we do not expect anyone in this feed to be purchasing it, but I welcome you to watch for movies we have coming later in the year. The Black Dahlia Haunting receiving the amount of SUPPORT it did (previous to this post) allowed us to have a little budget for a followup film: Dead Sea. Please feel free to critque that one when it debuts, knowing that we had some resources to assist in telling the story.

I had a wonderful time working on this with passionate people and learned alot about the paranormal world while doing so. Thank you to the members of Fangoria’s staff who continue to try and give the little guys a fighting chance to get our films seen.

So much negativity. It’s cool if people didn’t dig it, but insulting the filmmakers and such like they stole your puppy? Not cool, brah. Not cool. It’s a low budget flick, award-winning, at that. And is getting a Nat’l release on DVD. I’m fairly certain they’re all happy with that. I watched it on VOD and it was worth a viewing. Iacano and Pinn both delivered on the acting, and the overall concept was cool. Haters will hate. Glad you didn’t spend your money on it? That’s cool. Someone else will gladly spend theirs. True story.

First, Gingold is the godhead of horror journalists, he’s been an inspiration and idol of mine (and countless others) for very long time, and it’s truly disturbing to see anyone question his integrity or ability to hack a little dissention in the ranks. As for “The Black Dahlia Haunting”, I reviewed the film for both NerdRemix.com and HorrorHound Magazine, I found it to be (in my opinion, let’s never forget that) a very dark, moody, cerebral horror film made by a very capable and talented cast. I watch literally hundreds of low/micro/no budget horror films each year, and I can honestly say, BDH is one of the gems. A film at this budget level would never have had the festival run or distribution offers it has gotten if it was a turd. And, trust me, I’ll call a turd a turd. Bottom line, if you don’t like a film, or disagree with a review, feel free to say so. But to start, or threaten to start, a concerted smear campaign because there’s a “comment erasing conspiracy” or because you didn’t like a film that quite a few people like is just ignorant–use your time for something constructive, not to tear apart the work of others.

    • Brandon Slagle

Michael Gingold has done nothing but give, give, give, and give to people – so to see him criticized for taking the higher road is concerning.

  • Brandon Slagle

Sorry to hear this. I personally like kittens.

  • Actress Jessica Cameron

So I was in Calgary for the screening and no one walked out on the film due to quality, acting, etc. In fact most of the people who attended the screening I can list by name – they were a lot of the con peeps who I spent the entire weekend with.
I am all for everyone being allowed to express their own opinion, as a horror fan I count on that to make my movie choices. However lying about attending a screening when you did not, about your views on a film that you have not seen (or if you had you would not need to lie about where) is insulting.
Its insulting to horror fans everywhere, to this site and the author who wrote this article.

Rather then lying about a film, why not use your excessive amount of spare time to write a positive review on a film that you do like. That is a much more productive use of your time.

Or you could get a job, hobby, social life, etc.
    Jessica Cameron

  • Actress Jessica Cameron

Thats funny – I was AT THE CALGARY SCREENING (I was one of the guests at the con) and in the screening people did not walk out. So please stop lying, its very rude.
I hope that someone does delete the above comment – since its inaccurate and false.
(You can see that I attended Calgary as I am in numerous press articles and photos)

After seeing Mr. Hush on Netflix and seeing you play Marilyn Monroe . i think it was the most epic performance ever..

  • Angela Bolsen Carlucci

Im confused wasn’t there already a Black Dahlia film. Josh Harnett and a great cast. Is this a re-make? Almost the same exact artwork so I’m think re-make and why? You need to one up it these days if your gonna do a re-make. Doesn’t look as good as the original. Is there a trailer for this yet? Not impressed but curious.

    • Brandon Slagle

Not a remake. “The Black Dahlia” was more or less a boxing/love triangle film based on a pulp-style novel that had little to do with the actual case. This isn’t an exact exploration of the case either, but takes inspiration from several actual theories surrounding it…and is a possession film. Couldn’t be more different otherwise.

  • Brandon Slagle

Sad also to see that many of the user accounts leaving negative comments were all created since these shenanigans began. Having a personal opinion is one thing, but having an agenda is another.

  • Jellybeans454

Just rented this on REDBOX. After doing some research on the film and finding this article and seeing all the 100% positive comments on IMDB it goes to show that falsely saying the film is great makes people mad and thats why they will post negative, if you didn’t write a billion defensive comments that film is a 2000.00 film and getting big releasing maybe people would respect the film a bit more, but its sad to see the film makers and actresses are on here this page itself trying to explain themselves and demand the film is amazing.. As for reviewers who lie about what the film really is, lets just say no one is reading your review sites. I personally give every film a chance but this film has been falsely promoted and the girl DEVANNY who claims the film won all these big festival awards, lets just say none of those festivals are credit worthy. If they can’t post the award on IMDB it means they are mostly just junk festivals that have no real credit in the industry. I think people need to stop accepting every cheap indie crap film and start waking up about the 50 billion people outside of this area cause once it goes to the public you don’t have a film, you have a home video… I find it also super insulting they are using names in the 250 Thank you credits of people they don’t even know , you know why 5 of them I’ve worked with professionally and second one is my father a well respected director who feels insulted his name is on the film. Maybe a legal letter will make the film makers think before they use peoples names..Anyway I spent a 1.20 on this rental and it was not worth it. I also found it insulting my father’s name was used in the credits without permission.
