Texas Frightmare Weekend 2016: First Wave of Screenings, New Guest Announced!

With only two months until Texas Frightmare Weekend (April 29th – May 1st at the Regency DFW) strikes fear in the heart of the Dallas Area, the updates are looking to come fast and frightfully over the next several weeks. And as the official sponsor of the Southwest’s Premiere Horror Convention, FANGORIA has the exclusive word on the first wave of screenings happening at Texas Frightmare Weekend as well as a brand new guest announcement!

First off, Texas Frightmare Weekend is proud to announce the addition of genre vet and actress Samantha Mathis! Star of horror and sci-fi titles including AMERICAN PSYCHO, THE PUNISHER (2004), SALEM’S LOT (2004), UNDER THE DOME, NIGHTMARES & DREAMSCAPES and THE NEW DAUGHTER, Mathis (pictured above) is currently killing it in a supporting role on Guillermo del Toro’s THE STRAIN, in which she’ll return for the third season this summer. As of this writing, Mathis will be meeting and greeting fans for all three days of Texas Frightmare Weekend, joining the convention’s already amazing guest roster.

Next up, Texas Frightmare Weekend is finally ready to unveil their first (but certainly not the last) wave of films that will be screening during the convention! From slashers to psychological thrillers to extreme horror, Texas Frightmare Weekend has gone through some of the most anticipated upcoming indie titles to program a unique and diverse line-up of scare fare. While more exciting screening announcements are on the way, you can check out the current film line-up below (date/time TBA):

Director: Benjamin J. Moody
Starring: Akasha Villalobos, Danielle Evon Ploeger, Brian Villalobos

Scaring audiences at UK’s Frightfest and the NYC Horror Film Festival, LAST GIRL STANDING poses a terrifying question: what happens after the horror movie? In Benjamin J. Moody’s dark psychological horror film, the sole survivor of a brutal massacre by a masked madman attempts to move on with her life and start anew. However, as the line between the past and the present blur, she begins to doubt whether the bloodthirsty maniac really did die that fateful night.

Directors: Christian Stavrakis & Mark Ricche
Starring: Christian Stavrakis, Mark Ricche, Eduardo Sanchez

In this demented faux-documentary, filmmakers Christian Stavrakis & Mark Ricche investigate the lost work of infamous regional horror director Karl Atticus, whose alleged suicide in the ‘70s has been shrouded in mystery. However, as Stavrakis & Ricche get closer to the truth, they find out that the cult of Karl Atticus might be deeper- and darker- than they ever could imagine.

Director: Bobbin Ramsey
Starring: Rachel Brun, Nathan Pringle, Jay Myers

From the writer of ZMD: ZOMBIES OF MASS DESTRUCTION and producer Ian Bell, DEAD BODY follows nine teenagers who get together the summer before college for a rowdy weekend at their cabin getaway. However, an old parlor game to ease rising tensions turns deadly, and soon, everyone’s a suspect as the search for a real killer pushes them to the edge of sanity.

Director: Chuck Norfolk
Starring: Mayra Leal, Tom Long, Ron Jeremy

In this bloody horror offering from indie splatter filmmaker Chuck Norfolk, GETTING SCHOOLED follows a group of high-schoolers whose detention becomes deadly when their wheelchair-bound teacher turns out to be a murderous ex-black ops soldier. Set in the ‘80s, GETTING SCHOOLED is a twisted throwback that yields both horror and humor in equal measure.

Director: Marcus Koch
Starring: Dan Ellis, Lillian McKinley, Andy Winton

The second entry in Stephen Biro’s AMERICAN GUINEA PIG series, Chainsaw Award-nominated FX guru Marcus Koch helms this black-and-white chiller not for the faint at heart. Having debuted at last year’s Housecore Horror Film Festival, this controversial fright flick is unique, intense and gore-tastic in a way that will be enjoyed by only you and disgust everyone else!

Director: Joshua Allan Vargas
Starring: Andrew Bourgeois, Tom Araya, Randy Blythe

Featuring music from Tim “Ripper” Owens, HAIRMETAL SHOTGUN ZOMBIE MASSACRE pits drugged-out metalheads against bloodthirsty demons in a splattery, over-the-top free-for-all.

Director: Charles Band
Starring: Adam Noble Roberts, Brinke Stevens, Linnea Quigley

An obsessed fan and his mother kidnap former ‘scream queens’ and force them to reenact their famous film roles…with deadly results. And if the star-studded cast doesn’t do the trick, Charles Band will be on-hand to present the film at Texas Frightmare Weekend!
